perspective
as seen from a different perspective , everything changes. an idea that goes into the mandala’s
Sunrise 02
about 15 layers, the last a light glaze to push everything back so i can use it as negative space, but it is more dynamic than a solid color
Sunset 02
“sunset” with a gold glaze, the glaze pushes everything back
the painting wraps around to the wall
Sunrise 01
the sunrise painting as it progress’, getting layers that are subsequently covered, but still some remnants of the first layer can still be seen. in L.A. the sun rises from the desert mountains.
Sunset 01
the base for the “sunset” painting. the idea is to have a unimbellished sunset as the base layer hidden behind the city. in L.A. the sun sets on water
pallette 02
photo showing my pallette with blues and reds that are glazed in to make a deep blue water.
pallette 01
photo of my pallette. i am using these pure pigments in glazes to build the background colors
The panels are built
here are the finished panels for my new piece. you can see the different depths each compared to each other so they will recede into the wall. might call it “A Day in the Life”
Sketch
the idea is to show a day in the like of a city. the first panel on the left will show the sunrise. the next panel to the right will show the daylight hours. the square in the middle will be a mandala showing the city as you look up. the next panel will be the sunset and the final panel in the upper right will be night. these will be hung together as one piece.
Blue building, Downtown L.A.
In the city, our daily lives are filled with man-made objects, straight lines, right angles, unnatural colors, and the juxtaposition of ideas and objects creating a grand mixture of images, colors and forms
Main street, Venice
Where the city measures time in seconds, nature measures in lifetimes . hopefully we find a balance
Main and 1st, Downtown L.A.
a city is so complex, there are people and buildings and movement and color. this is complexity made simple.
Spring and 5th, Downtown L.A.
Downtown L.A. 2012, i like the black and white with the negative space working. i also like the glow coming from the bottom kind of lifting it all up
L.A. Light
An amamzing piece, L.A. caught on time lapse. Cinematography, direction, and editing by Colin Rich.
